Scenic View/Photo Spot
Mori Point provides great views of the coast, with Mount Tamalpais visible in the far north and Pedro Point to the south. The area is well known for its spring wildflower displays on the bluffs made of reddish, weathered pillow basalt rocks. The best time for flower viewing is in April.
Parking at Mori Point trailhead is limited. If you park outside of the parking lot, please be mindful of local street parking regulations.
The view at the point is about 0.75 miles from the parking lot.
Speakeasies and Bootlegging
During Prohibition In the 1920s, Stefano Mori's son Jack was managing operations at the family inn and started serving alcohol at the roadhouse. Eventually, the Mori family bootlegging operation became so extensive it caught the attention of federal agents. The result was a finish worthy of a Hollywood film, when a shootout took place between "Prohis" and "rumrunners." Jack Mori was arrested in 1923, and federal agents confiscated 24,000 cases of Canadian whiskey from the family farm.
Devil Music
Throughout the 1950s, future head of the Church of Satan Anton LaVey frequented the area, treating visitors to his talents on the organ at Mori Inn.
If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out!
The cult-classic 1971 film Harold and Maude filmed its final scene of a car careening off a cliffside on the bluff here at Mori Point.
