Shuttle Bus Stop — Hermit Road (Red) Route

Bicycle - Rack, Bus/Shuttle Stop

NOT IN SERVICE DURING WINTER

Hermit Road is open to private vehicles (under 22 feet) during the months of December, January and Februay, when there is no bus service.

  • Between March 1, and November 30, Hermit Road can only be accessed by the free Hermits Rest (Red) Route shuttle bus, on foot, bicycle, or by commercial tour.

ONE WAY STOP - Outbound to Hermits Rest Only

Although there is not a view of Grand Canyon directly from this shuttle stop, a short walk from here along the easy, paved path is rewarded with a spectacular, open, panoramic viewpoint which extends far out from the canyon rim.

Hidden among the depths of the canyon, a sharp eye will spot the first view of the Colorado River visible along the Hermit Road.

From the viewpoint at the end of the path, look down and to your left for a glimpse of the remains of the Orphan Mine. Originally established as a private copper mine in the days before Grand Canyon was a National Park, this site was also later mined for uranium in the 1950s and 1960s. A vertical shaft, cables and other mining debris are visible from the west side of the viewpoint.
