Entrance Passes for Sale, Information

Moose-Wilson Road Construction will take place beginning in 2022. The southern portion of the road from the Granite Canyon Entrance to the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve will be closed in 2022 except on weekends (7 pm Friday to 7 am Monday) from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Granite Canyon Trailhead will be closed to all access during 2022.

Location

Travel 1.5 miles north of Teton Village on the Moose-Wilson Road to access the southern part of Grand Teton National Park. The road crosses through critical wildlife habitat as it winds through sagebrush, forest and wetland communities. Only stop in designated pullouts and maintain a safe distance from all animals. This road becomes congested during peak season.

Special restrictions and considerations apply. The park prohibits RVs over 23.3 feet long and trailers. From November 1 through April 30, the park closes three miles of the road from the Granite Canyon Trailhead to the Death Canyon Road. About one and a half miles of the road is compacted dirt with dust sealant applied. This section can become quite rough due to potholes.

Visitor Services

Rangers staff the entrance gate providing visitor information and selling entrance permits. The gate also posts campground availability. When no one is present, you may pick up a park newspaper (including a map) in front of the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center (summer). The Jackson Hole Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center in Jackson is open year-round.

Name Origin

Early explorers misidentified the rocks found in the canyon as igneous granite. In the upper canyon, the rocks are actually metamorphic metagabbro that resembles granite.
