International Migratory Bird Day (Pipestone, MN) Go Wild, Go Birding! is the theme for the International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) event. Superintendent Glen Livermont would like to invite everyone out to the Pipestone National Monument to celebrate this event on Saturday May 14, 2011. The monument will be offering children's activities from 9 am until noon in the Monument Visitor Center and an opportunity to walk the Circle Trail to enjoy some bird watching. IMBD was created 1996 by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology and continues to focus attention on one of the most important and spectacular events in the life of a migratory bird – its journey between its summer and winter homes. Public awareness and concern are crucial components of migratory bird conservation. The 2011 theme was chosen to highlight the focus on reaching out to involve youth and adults in learning about birds, bird watching, and bird conservation. This program will be held at the Pipestone National Monument Visitor Center, 36 Reservation Ave, Pipestone, Minnesota. Park entrance fees of $3.00 per person or National Park Service passes are required. Children 15 years and younger and American Indians are free. |
