Pipestone National Monument celebrates 75th Anniversary Pipestone, MN: In honor of Pipestone National Monument's 75th Anniversary, Superintendent Glen Livermont is pleased to invite the community to join monument staff in celebrating the cultural, natural, and historical significance of the monument.The staff is excited to announce a month full of activities at the park and in the community to memorialize this great milestone. Pipestone National Monument will host several events at the visitor center throughout the day on Saturday August 25th 2012. Activities will include walks, refreshments, photo displays, three guest speakers, post office cancellation of a special anniversary stamp, and guided tours of the monument maintenance operation on the Minnesota West Community & Technical College. At 1pm there will be a formal ceremony at the visitor center with remarks and presentations by staff of the National Park Service, federal, state and local officials, community leaders, and member of tribes affiliated with the monument.Local radio stations will broadcast a week of 75th Anniversary trivia games, with local prizes. During the month of August: the Pipestone County Museum will exhibit a collection of historic photographs to represent the many changes that have occurred at the monument and the local community over the years.The Meinders Community Library will be displaying books and mementos of Pipestone National Monument that the public can check out. As a way of saying thank you to the community for 75 years of valuable support the monument will waive all entrance fees on August 25th. For visitors who would like to purchase or acquire a National Park Service or monument annual pass they will be available at the visitor center throughout the day. Please dress accordingly, as some of the activities will be held outdoors, weather permitting.
