The park commemorates the nine-and-a-half-month siege of this city from June 1864 to April 1865. There are four areas of the park spread out over 33 miles. Plan a full day visit to experience the entire battlefield park.

At Grant's Headquarters at City Point, you can learn about the massive supply base and large field hospital operation. Discover the story of the Appomattox plantation, the Eppes family, and the enslaved people who were here before the war's arrival.

The Eastern Front Visitor Center offers exhibits and a film that tell the story of the siege and its impacts on the course of the Civil War. Park staff will answer your questions and provide information to help you make the best use of your time.

The Western Front includes Poplar Grove National Cemetery, U.S. Fort Wadsworth, U.S. Fort Fisher, and Confederate Fort Gregg.

At Five Forks Battlefield, see where Gen. Sheridan defeated Gen. Pickett. This battle triggered the collapse of Petersburg and Richmond. Explore a five-stop driving tour and visitor center.

Throughout the year park staff present a variety of talks, tours, living history demonstrations and special events that commemorate the park's rich heritage.
