Pea Ridge National Military Park to present a special program, “Vinnie Ream: Artist, Sculptor, Socialite, and Icon of the Equal Rights Movement.”
Saturday, March 25, 6:00-7:00 P.M.
In honor of Women’s History Month, Park Mr. Guide Kerry Jones will present a program on the fascinating life of Vinnie Ream (1847-1914) on Saturday, March 25, from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. in the visitor center auditorium. Ms. Ream was a talented artist and sculptor who, at the age of eighteen, carved the famous statue of President Abraham Lincoln on display in the United States Capitol’s rotunda. She also made sculptures of Admiral David Farragut, Cherokee statesman Sequoyah, and Iowa Senator Samuel J. Kirkwood; the latter two statues are on display in the National Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol. For more information, please call 479-451-8122.
Pea Ridge National Military Park preserves and commemorates the March 7-8, 1862, battle that helped Union forces maintain physical and political control of the state of Missouri. Administered by the National Park Service, the 4,300-acre battlefield is located 10 miles north of Rogers, just off US Highway 62.
