September 26, 2006 Patty Dorris 573-323-4236, ext. 225 For Immediate Release Pulltite Visitor Contact Facility Environmental Assessment Available for Public Review The National Park Service (NPS), Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR), has completed an environmental assessment (EA) for the construction of a new ADA-accessible visitor contact facility that will include a 1,050 square foot building with visitor interpretive services, ranger and maintenance office space, modern restrooms for men and women, and ADA-accessible showers. The project site is located on the upper Current River in Shannon County, Missouri, at the end of County Road EE off State Highway 19 in Section 34, Township 31 North, Range 5 West. The EA discusses and analyzes alternatives designed to achieve the following needs: Display more prominently the presence of the NPS to visitors entering Pulltite from County Road EE. Provide better services to park visitors by having a ranger contact facility with orientation and interpretive information. Consolidate visitor restrooms and showers, ranger contact, office space, and interpretive services into one modern facility Increase facility usefulness and accessibility. Remove inadequate, obsolete or deficient facilities. Identify a location for a new concession store. The NPS is formally requesting input from the public on the "Environmental Assessment for Pulltite Visitor Contact Facility." The EA has been posted on the government website and public comment will be accepted between September 24, 2007 and October 23, 2007.
