Dixie, the Belgian Draft Horse

Horses and mules were vital to the success of any farm before the inventions of steam and gas powered farm equipment. These strong animals were the power source for lugging around heavy materials or pulling carts, carriages, and plows.

Draft horses, like the Belgian Draft Horses at Oxon Hill Farm, are stronger than other breeds. Mules, a cross between a horse and a donkey, can be stronger, hardier, and longer-lived than either of its parents.
