National Park Service

Federal regulations covering all National Park Service lands are contained in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 36, Chapter 1.

National Trails System Act

Congress established the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail on September 8, 1980, as Section 14 of Public Law 96-344, an amendment to the National Trails System Act (82 Stat. 919, 16 USC 1241). To guide management of the trail, the National Park Service prepared a comprehensive management plan, finalized in September 1982, and amended in 2018. The comprehensive management plan provides a vision and decision-making framework for the trail; identifies significant natural, historical, and cultural resources to be preserved; and describes anticipated cooperative agreements with state and local government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private entities.

Firearms

As of February 22, 2010, a new federal law allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws, to legally possess firearms in the National Park Service administered areas that this trail crosses.

It is the responsibility of visitors to understand and comply with all applicable state, local, and federal firearms laws before entering these affected park areas.
