Julie Bennett has been selected as the new specialist for the Incident Business program within National Park Service Branch of Wildland Fire, replacing Christine Peters, who retired last year.
Julie began her federal career as a seasonal employee on a Bureau of Land Management engine in Central Oregon. She has fireline experience from her time with the Black Mountain and Silver State hotshot crews, and engines in the urban interface areas of Boise and Reno/Carson City.
After a break from federal service, she returned to the administrative division and has worked in budget, incident business, human resources, records, procurement, and supervision. Julie has experience in Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation (ESR) project management and supervising district resources staff as an assistant field manager. She is an experienced incident business state program lead and Incident Business Advisor, has experience in incident management team finance positions and happily describes herself as “duct tape of admin.”
Julie’s knowledge and experience regarding incident business policies, procedures, and practices is respected at multiple organizational levels. She led the revision of the Nevada Statewide Master Agreement, Operating Plan and Billing Processes and led the Great Basin Buying Team Core group. She strives to have a well-rounded knowledge base in budget, workforce planning, procurement, cost share agreements and cost validations, and cost recovery from fire trespass cases. Her experience stems from advising agency administrators, fire management officers, incident business specialists and incident commanders on administrative policy, implementation and forecasting the effects.
Julie has two children and a retired fire guy at home. She enjoys all things swimming, being outdoors, and spending time with her family. Julie is proud to support and work with all levels of the fire organization. She is excited to become part of the National Park Service family.
