Melissa “Missy” Forder Presented with 2018 National Park Service Southeast Region Wildland Fire and Aviation Excellence Award

The National Park Service (NPS) Southeast Region (SER) Wildland Fire and Aviation Excellence Award is presented annually to an NPS SER employee to recognize outstanding achievement in leadership development, operational leadership, and cooperation and collaboration. The 2018 recipient is Deputy SER Regional Wildland Fire and Aviation Management Officer Melissa “Missy” Forder.

Missy was nominated by park-level personnel for her dedication to the field level and her resultant excellent customer service. Missy is recognized by many of her customers as being a mentor, always available for questions/comments/concerns, having patience in teaching others, being well prepared for meetings, her infectious drive and effectiveness, and her ability to organize large groups of people to establish and implement shared goals.

A total of 5 nominees were submitted in 2018. Honorable mentions for the other nominees include Denver Ingram (Southern Area Coordination Center), Jordan McKnight (Southwest Florida Zone at Big Cypress National Preserve), Justin Shedd (Geographic Information Systems Specialist at North Carolina State University) and Robert Vick (Mississippi River Zone at Natchez Trace Parkway).
