Angela Wetz, a 10-year veteran of the National Park Service(NPS) has been named as the new superintendent of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.Wetz, with 19 years of federal service, has served as the Acting Superintendent at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park since early August. “It has been an honor to get to come to Alaska and work with the amazing dedicated staff at Klondike. I have enjoyed experiencing the park’s awesome natural and cultural resources, learning about its rich history, engaging with the park’s partners, and becoming a part of this community,” said Wetz. “ I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve as the Superintendent of this fantastic park.”
"Remote parks in Alaska, with the unique challenges they present in isolation, topography and weather, require knowledgeable leadership and deft management. Angela brings all that and more to Skagway where staff, the community and our international partners will benefit," Acting Region 11 Director Don Striker said.
Prior to serving in Alaska, Angela has over 8 years of experience as a Superintendent at Fossil Butte National Monument in Kemmerer, Wyoming and Nicodemus National Historic Site in Nicodemus, Kansas. Some of Angela’s other assignments include Chief of Resource Management at Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming and serving as a Natural Resource Specialist for the Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation in North Dakota and Montana. Wetz started her federal career as a Park Ranger at Pompeys Pillar National Monument.
Angela has a Bachelor of Science, Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism, Parks and Protected Area Management from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado. She grew up in Montana and graduated from Billings West High School. Angela has a daughter who attends middle school in Skagway. They enjoy traveling, hiking, fishing, baking and sewing.
