Joyelyn "Joy" Sommer Named as NPS Division of Fire and Aviation Administrative Support Assistant

Joy Sommer is the new administrative support assistant for the NPS Division of Fire and Aviation.

Joyelyn "Joy" Sommer has joined the National Park Service (NPS) as the administrative support assistant for the Division of Fire and Aviation at the National Interagency Fire Center.

Joy started her government career working with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Galena, Alaska as an emergency firefighter (EFF) in the summer months beginning in 2008. During the winter months, she attended the University of Alaska Anchorage graduating with double degree in Business Management and Business Marketing in 2013. After graduating, she started working at the Anchorage Interagency Dispatch Center as an aircraft dispatcher. In 2019, Joy accepted an assignment working as an administrative assistant for the Anchorage District Office of the BLM. Joy and her family relocated to Boise in January 2020, working with the DOI FIRES Program at NIFC as a human resources assistant prior to joining the NPS.

Joy and her partner, Ted, have two children, Kaylee (11) and Tylan (3). She enjoys activities and going on adventures with them as well as taking walks, going biking, and travelling as much as she can. She loves hanging out with her family and friends. Welcome Joy!
