John Banks has been selected as an information technology (IT) specialist for the Division of Fire and Aviation’s Branch of Information Technology & Resource Management (ITRM) focused on customer support.
John started his IT career in the Idaho Air National Guard in 1996 where he was a loadmaster on C-130 aircraft. When not flying, John assisted with IT functions for the 189th Airlift Squadron. He retired from the Idaho Air National Guard in January 2010.
John began his civilian career with the BLM Boise District office in 2007 where he supported their fire program, including Boise Dispatch. He is currently at the Idaho State Office of BLM, performing customer support duties, where he is a cadastral subject matter expert for IT. He has been on the Type 2 Great Basin Incident Management Team 6, as the lead Incident Technology Support Specialist (ITSS) for nine seasons. He has a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Idaho.
Branch Chief, Erik Torres-Jacquez stated, “John is a highly respected and skilled IT specialist and will be a great addition to the ITRM branch. We are excited to welcome John into the IT specialist position and are proud he chose to be part of the NPS family.”
John and his wife of 21 years, Jennifer, have two girls, Katie, age 13 and Michaela, age 17. They live in Emmett, Idaho and enjoy fishing, spending time outdoors, and going to their cabin in Cascade, Idaho. Jennifer works at a veterinary clinic and they have horses, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and fish as pets.
