The Western Archeological and Conservation Center is not open to the public. Researchers should contact us for appointments. However, each March, for Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month, we open our doors for a limited number of tours of the labs and repositories.

2018 Information and Dates

March 20-24, 2018:
Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Followed by a Facility Tour of Labs and Repositories

Tuesday, March 20: Ben Bellorado, the University of Arizona, will discuss "The Fashions of Fancy Footwear in Chaco and Post-Chaco Eras in the Northern Southwest."

Wednesday, March 21: Pearce Paul Creasman, the Laboratory of Tree Ring Research (LTRR), will present "Curating tree-ring specimens: A partnership between the NPS and the LTRR."

Thursday, March 22: Kristina Whitney, Chiricahua National Monument, will discuss "Recent Archeology in the Chiricahuas." Within only the last few years, over 50 archeological sites have been discovered at Chiricahua National Monument and Fort Bowie National Historic Site. This talk will give a broad overview of these discoveries and recent excavations.

Friday, March 23: Lauren Kingston, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument will present “From Cacti to Cars: Recent Investigations at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.” Kingston’s talk will cover recent archaeological investigations from Precolumbian to Midcentury Modern at the park.

Saturday, March 24: Please bring the whole family for an hour of technology demonstrations. Learn how ancient methods of cotton spinning influence curent practitioners. Try your hand at making a pinch pot!

Note: Tour begins at 1:30, and space is limited for the tour.
