Dave Williamson has been named as the regional structural fire management officer (RSMO) for the Southeast Region (SER) of the National Park Service. The region consists of nine states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
From 2017-2019, Dave was a volunteer-in-parks (VIP) working with Jimmy Stewart, the SER RSMO at the time. As a VIP he worked on park projects, conducted on-site inspections and taught portable fire extinguisher classes for several parks in the region. From 2016-2019, Dave also served as a fire safety compliance officer for the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office. He was responsible for required annual inspections, fire inspections during building construction, and fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems inspections and commissioning for fourteen counties in central Georgia. He also conducted on-site plan reviews and revisions.
Before 2016, Dave was in the fire service for twenty-four years serving in many positions from firefighter/paramedic to battalion chief, training officer to EMS director. His favorite and most rewarding duties were in the fire marshal office where he served the residents of Peachtree City Georgia for eight years, five as fire marshal. Dave has obtained many national certifications along the way, including Fire Officer IV, Instructor III, Inspector II, Fire Investigator and HAZMAT Technician.
Dave identifies himself as a servant leader. He believes that all of the resources of an organization are intended to assist the organization and personnel at the local level. He is dedicated to being available, responsive and to providing assistance to the local parks throughout the region. If there is a fire safety issue he wants to identify and solve it in the most expeditious way possible to ensure the safety of employees and guests alike.
Prior to entering the fire service Dave retired from the US Army (AGR) with sixteen years active duty and three years National Guard duty.
Dave lives in the South Atlanta Region with his wife. He enjoys camping in the local, state, and federal parks. He and his wife are very active in the lives of their four sons and many grandchildren.
