WASHINGTON – Jeffrey P. Reinbold, a national park manager with 28 years’ experience and expertise in public-private partnerships, has been selected by the National Park Service to serve as superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks. Reinbold has served as acting superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks since March.

He will manage the iconic monuments and memorials of the nation’s capital, and care for treasured neighborhood green space with a budget of approximately $35 million and alongside a staff of nearly 300 and more than 6,000 volunteers. More than 35 million visitors to the National Mall contribute more than $800 million to the local economy annually. Reinbold will also manage the National Mall’s infrastructure improvement projects, ensuring the enjoyment of future park visitors.

"Jeff’s extensive experience bringing organizations together in support of national parks will greatly benefit the parks in our nation’s capital," National Park Service Deputy Director P. Daniel Smith said. "I am fully confident in his ability to connect the millions of people that visit the National Mall from around the world to the stories preserved here."

Reinbold has previously served as the National Park Service’s assistant director for partnerships and civic engagement, where he was responsible for partnerships, philanthropy, national trails, and wild and scenic rivers.

"I fell in love with the monuments and memorials of the nation’s capital when I first visited as a child and I am honored to now serve as superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks," said Reinbold. "I look forward to working with park staff, volunteers and partners to protect and preserve these iconic sites while providing amazing recreational opportunities for visitors to and residents of Washington."

In more than 28 years with the National Park Service, Reinbold has led planning and partnership projects around the country: protecting historic sites and Civil War battlefields, developing new ways for national parks to work with their neighboring communities, and exploring ways to connect people to the national parks. He served at the National Park Service’s central planning, design, and construction center in Denver, and as the superintendent of the five National Parks in Western Pennsylvania, including Flight 93 National Memorial, where he also oversaw the international design competition for the Memorial. He started his National Park Service career as a seasonal ranger in 1990 at the Johnstown Flood National Memorial.

Reinbold holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from the Ohio State University. He is married to Jacqueline Reinbold and they have two sons.
