Upper Falls Fire Near Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park

A small fire, named the Upper Falls Fire, is burning southwest of Barnes Point at Lake Crescent. The fire is burning in steep rugged terrain upslope of Marymere Falls and is estimated to be 1.5 acres in size.

Olympic National Park (ONP) and Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) crews are on-scene and have begun fire suppression efforts. Impacts may include smoke in the Barnes Point area and along Highway 101 near Lake Crescent.

The park received a report of the fire at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7.Two park rangers responded to investigate.At approximately 6:00 p.m. ONP and DNR crews were on-scene and began fire suppression efforts.

Currently, the Marymere Falls trails remains open. The trail may be closed if fire conditions change. At this time, no structures are threatened.

The fire is believed to be human caused and is under investigation.
