Nafis White has been announced as New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park’s new Artist-In-Residence (AIR). Ms. White will be exploring New Bedford’s history and culture through a variety of media, in the park’s MakerSpace. She will welcome the public into the studio on Wednesdays and Thursdays through March 31, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Nafis White is a multidisciplinary fine artist who creates her work from objects commonly found in beauty supply stores, natural, industrial and irrigation components and the seemingly limitless horizons of our global and political landscapes. Through sculpture, installation, photography and weaving she centers the uncanny audacity of self-affirmation and love by means of repetition as a form of change.
White’s work is in the permanent collection of the Rhode Island School of Design Museum and University of New Mexico Art Museum, and has been exhibited at Autograph ABP, Goldsmiths University and OXO Tower in London, Overture Center for the Arts Madison, The de Young Museum, National Queer Arts Festival, The List Gallery at Brown University, New Museum and the Rhode Island School of Design, among many others.
White holds an MFA and BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. She lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island.
