The National Park Service and D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation are now accepting applications for athletic fields on the National Mall for the 2018 season:

Softball Field Permitting
For 2018, D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation (DCDPR) will hold a lottery for all softball permits, including those formerly permitted by the National Park Service (NPS). Available softball fields for the start of the season include S1-S8, S12 and S11 (as necessary); fields S9 and S10 will be available later during the season but not in time for the lottery. The price of the fields will remain at last year’s cost of $7 for the season, to cover the cost of permit processing. DCDPR will only permit for softball and cricket in 2018.

Lottery applications will be accepted online at the DCDPR website starting March 19 and must be received by April 1. DCDPR will conduct the lottery with assistance from the NPS and award the permits no later than April 15. The season will start May 1, with two time slots per evening during the week (5 pm - 6:30 pm, and 7 pm-dark) and multiple slots each weekend day (9 am - dark).

Other Athletic Field Permitting
Permits for use of all other multi-use athletic fields by other sports (rugby, soccer, kickball,
ultimate Frisbee, etc.) will be issued by the NPS. Available fields include the West Potomac Park polo fields, Hains Point, Raoul Wallenberg Place rugby fields, and JFK Hockey fields. The cost of field use is $90 for the season, to cover the cost of permit processing.

Applications will be via email at e-mail us, or in person or via postal mail at the Division of Permits Management office (900 Ohio Drive, SW, Washington, DC 20024) starting March 19. Fields are available for use Monday through Friday from 5:30 p.m. – dusk and on weekends from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. – dusk.
