- Installing new in-fountain lighting at the memorial to replace lighting systems that are no longer functional.
- Replacement of non-functioning exterior in-ground lighting that highlights the memorial’s state and territory pillars.
- Associated electrical and mechanical upgrades necessary to support safe and reliable operation.
The work is part of ongoing work to rehabilitate and modernize fountains and related infrastructure at National Park Service sites across Washington, DC. All work will be carried out in accordance with federal standards for historic preservation to ensure protection of the memorial’s historic fabric.
The memorial will be closed to ensure visitor safety during construction. Visitors should expect to find fencing and construction barriers, and some pedestrian routes may be adjusted during the work. The National Park Service apologizes for any inconvenience caused by these temporary closures and appreciates the public’s patience as this important work is completed. Visitors are encouraged to follow posted signage and directions from NPS staff and contractors while visiting the memorial.
