Updated National Park Service Area Closures for Inauguration Day

Washington – Due to forecasted severe weather conditions, significant updates have been made to the schedule and location of the upcoming 60th Presidential Inauguration. With wind chills forecast in the lower teens or single digits, in the interest of public safety the swearing-in ceremony will take place in the rotunda of the United States Capitol, and the parade will be held at Capital One Arena. Updates to public access for National Park Service sites on Monday, January 20 include:
 

• Closures scheduled for the National Mall between 3rd Street to 14th Street have been lifted and the area will be publicly accessible as normal, though there may be temporary closures in some areas as crews remove fencing and other infrastructure from the area. There will be no viewing opportunities of any inauguration activities from the Mall.

• With the exception of the Washington Monument, all monuments and memorials on the National Mall will be open (Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and World War II Memorial).

• The World War I Memorial will be open, but as Pennsylvania Avenue will remain a secure area visitors will need to pass through a checkpoint to access it. Screening areas will be located on the north and south sides of Pennsylvania Avenue at 4th Street, 7th Street, 12th Street and 14th Street.

• Madison Drive and Jefferson Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic.

• Lafayette Park will be closed to the public, with the exception of the previously established First Amendment area, which will be accessible.
