Starting immediately and continuing until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, local time the following National Park Service (NPS) areas will be closed or have public use limits imposed. Maps illustrating the closed park and district areas are attached.
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 1.5, continuing from the July 17, 2026, Record of Determination Amendment, at 8:01 p.m. on July 22, 2026, the NPS will continue to impose a temporary closure of, and public use limit in, certain designated roadways at the National Mall and Memorial Parks in conjunction with the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
These temporary closures will remain in place through August 13, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. and limits come at the request of the United States Park Police and District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department based on concerns for public and work safety in the area. Less restrictive measures will not suffice to provide for public safety.
It is expected that these closures will continue past August 13, 2026, as other area closures are implemented in the run up to the Grand Prix event. Public notices on additional closures will be shared as soon as information is available.
Road Closures
Madison Drive NW, and Jefferson Drive SW between 3rd and 7th Street
Starting at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2026, a full road closure to the public will be in effect through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
First Amendment and public gathering activities will be subject to uniformly applied security restrictions, including security screenings, the Secret Service’s prohibited items list, identification requirements such as individuals holding permits for activities within restricted areas, and other NPS guidelines for attendance.
