Notice to the Public Washington Monument Grounds Closure September 8,2026

Beginning on September 8, 2026, from approximately 7:00 a.m. through approximately 1:00 p.m., the following National Park Service (NPS) areas will be closed to public access:
  • Washington Monument Grounds (including interior sidewalks)
  • Constitution Avenue NW: Northern and southern sidewalks between 15th Street NW and 17th Street NW
  • 17th Street NW: Eastern sidewalk from Constitution Avenue NW to the World War II Memorial
15th Street NW: Western sidewalk from Constitution Avenue NW to Jefferson Drive SWA map illustrating the closed park areas is attached. Any park visitors in the above areas should depart as soon as possible.

The restrictions are necessary due to unique security requirements associated with the United States Secret Service’s protection of the President of the United States. The Secret Service has evaluated that this closure is necessary to establish a secure perimeter with adequate stand-off distance for the safety of the President, U.S. government officials, and the public. Violation is prohibited.

Note: These restrictions do not apply to NPS employees or contractors performing their duties, though the Secret Service may temporarily restrict their movements within the restricted area as needed to fulfill its mission.

The National Park Service appreciates the public’s cooperation in this matter.
