Notice to the Public: for the temporary restriction of access to and public use limit in certain areas of the National Mall and Memorial Parks for the March on Washington Commemoration: Voting Rights and Civil Rights

Beginning on August 27, 2026, through August 29, 2026, local time the following National Park Service (NPS) areas will be closed or have public use limits imposed. Maps illustrating the closed park and district areas are attached.

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 1.5, the National Park Service (NPS) will implement the following temporary and/or intermittent closures Thursday, August 27, 2026 through Saturday, August 29, 2026, of certain designated parklands at the National Mall and Memorial Parks as delineated in the attached maps. The demonstration, associated with the 63rd Anniversary of the March on Washington, will be attended by high profile members of Congress and other prominent public figures. Multiple law enforcement agencies have concluded that the closures hereby authorized are necessary to ensure a safe environment for both the general public and protectees in the permitted area.

Unless otherwise noted, it is anticipated that USPP personnel will restrict pedestrian and vehicle access at the following locations and times—all times are local.Specifically, there will be temporary visitor access restrictions of the following locations:The National Park Service will close the following parklands and roads to pedestrians and vehicular traffic within its jurisdiction in order to facilitate the March on Washington events.

Park Area Closures

From 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, until approximately 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, the following areas will be closed or limit access to the public:

• Lincoln Memorial Granite Landing, and portions of the steps ascending into the memorial.

From 04:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, until approximately 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, the following areas will be closed or limit access to the public:

• Lincoln Memorial Chamber, Colonnade, Granite Landing, Steps Plaza and undercroft.
• Grass area inside of the vehicle barrier that surrounds the Lincoln Memorial.

Road Closures

From 5:00 a.m., until approximately 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2026, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic:

• Henry Bacon Drive NW
• Ohio Drive, SW from Ericsson Statue to Inlet Bridge
• West Basin Drive between Ohio Drive, SW to Independence Avenue, SW
• 23rd Street SW between Independence Avenue and Lincoln Memorial Circle.
• Daniel French Drive SW
• West Potomac Park Drive between Ohio Drive SW and Independence Avenue, SW

From 2:00 p.m., until approximately 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2026, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic:

• Independence Avenue from 17th to 23rd Street, SW
• 17th Street from Constitution Avenue to Independence Avenue
