Beginning at approximately 5:00 p.m. on September 29, 2026, through approximately 2:00 a.m. on September 30, 2026, local time, the following National Park Service (NPS) areas will be closed or have public use limits imposed as described below. A map of the impacted areas is attached, but the areas closed to the public will be specifically designated by fencing and security personnel. Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 1.5, the National Park Service (NPS) will implement temporary public access restrictions at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial on September 29, 2026 through September 30, 2026, as depicted on the attached map. The restrictions are requested by the United States Secret Service (USSS) due to the unique security requirements associated with protecting the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. The United States Park Police concurs with the Secret Service’s request, because the Secret Service’s written request attached hereto represents a substantial increase of public access to the area compared to alternative plans considered prior to consultation with USPP. The impacted areas will be open to invitees attending an associated permitted event, subject to security screening by non-NPS personnel. Unless otherwise noted, it is anticipated that United States Park Police (USPP) personnel will restrict pedestrian and vehicle access at the following locations and times—all times are local. The exact times are subject to change based upon the evolving schedule of the event. The USSS will notify the NPS as soon as practicable of any changes in dates and times or if the restrictions are no longer necessary.
