The National Park Service (NPS) strives to lead the region in providing exceptional outdoor experiences. We seamlessly link richly diverse places of natural and historic significance in the national capital area while providing safe and enjoyable experiences for people to walk, run, bike and have fun with friends and family. A Safer Hains PointThe NPS is proposing transportation improvements on Ohio Drive in East Potomac Park to improve visitor safety and access to Hains Point. Under the current proposal, one vehicle travel lane on the one-way loop of Ohio Drive from the East Potomac Golf Center to Hains Point and back to Buckeye Drive would be replaced with new dedicated bicycle and pedestrian lanes. One travel lane would remain open for vehicle access to Hains Point and parking lots. As part of the proposal, tour buses would be prohibited from entering Ohio Drive at the start of the one-way loop; school buses would still be allowed access Hains Point.
.
The proposed improvements would provide safe, dedicated space for bicyclists and pedestrians while maintaining vehicle access and parking, in line with other recent safety and access improvements across the National Mall.
