Notice to Public: Closure of Turf Panels at Arts of War and Arts of Peace Statues

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 1.5, and effective beginning on July 2, 2026, at approximately 6:00 a.m. and through September 30, 2026, at approximately 11:59 p.m., the National Park Service (NPS) is imposing a temporary closure of, and public use limit in, certain designated parklands at the National Mall and Memorial Parks in conjunction with the project to rehabilitate the Arts of War and Arts of Peace Statues, as delineated in the map below and as further delineated by fencing or other physical barriers. This closure is necessary for the maintenance of public health and safety and protection of natural and cultural resources and to allow for unimpeded construction activity. Closures will be lifted as soon as no longer necessary, restoring access to the public as soon as practicable. Violation is prohibited.

The restricted area is indicated on the enclosed map and includes all Lawn areas and Turf Panels Bounded by Parkway Drive NW, the Watergate Steps, Lincoln Memorial Traffic Circle NW, and the masonry balustrade walls at the Arts of War and Arts of Peace Statues. No road closures are required.

The public can access the sidewalks adjacent to the lawn and turf areas within the closure, as well as the sidewalks leading onto Memorial Bridge. The closure does not include roadways.

The National Park Service appreciates the public’s cooperation in this matter.
