GREENBELT, Md. — The National Park Service (NPS) will reopen Greenbelt Park to vehicles, camping and picnicking on Sept. 30. The park has been closed since July 15 due to significant damage from an 80-plus mph windstorm. For more than two months, NPS crews and contractors have removed more than 100 fallen or hazardous trees and conducted safety inspections to ensure the safety of park visitors and staff.

“I am thankful for our maintenance team and contractors who helped clear the hazardous conditions and ensured that park visitors and staff can safely enter the park,” Tara D. Morrison, National Capital Parks - East Superintendent said. “We have worked every day to prepare for the reopening and we are excited to finally welcome visitors back.”

The areas of the park reopening on Sept. 30 include all park campgrounds, Sweetgum picnic area, the Greenbelt Park Ranger Station, and all park roads.

Greenbelt Park trails will remain closed in order to address the extensive tree damage along the trails and the need for maintenance personnel and contractors to safely remove trees without risking injury to park visitors.

Camping reservations for Greenbelt Park campground also open on Sept. 30 and can be found at Greenbelt Campground, Greenbelt Park - Recreation.gov.
