Spooking Cattle

William Henry Jackson
1867

After Jackson and Bill Maddern reached Los Angeles, they proceeded to San Francisco on foot. Jackson noted in his diary that along the way, they were accosted by a herd of cattle, prompting the pair to "shout...wave our hats and jump into the air...and continue our dancing and shouting until we had the whole herd turned to one side.”
