Whitman & Barnes Manufacturing Company
ca. 1910

Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad "Railroad Special." The Whitman & Barnes Manufacturing Company was founded in 1877. In 1893, the company acquired the Acme line of monkey wrenches from the Capitol Manufacturing Company. By 1910, Whitman & Barnes produced four styles of monkey wrenches, including the “Railroad Special.” The head and bar were drop forged in one piece from open hearth steel, the screw and jaw were deeply threaded, and it was fitted with an indestructible iron handle. This strong wrench could be used in any locomotive and car repair.
