The locomotive, the Spang Chalfont and Company Locomotive number 8, is known as the "Cutaway" steam locomotive. J. David Conrad was commissioned to selectively cut open areas of the boiler, steam chest, dome and tender to show how a steam locomotive generates and uses steam in motion. In this image, the locomotive is being moved from the park locomotive shop to the Technology Museum.
