Quiz Jr.: Railroad Questions and Answers

(William Truesdale at Lackawanna Ltd)

Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad Company
1915

William Haynes Truesdale (1851 – 1935) became president of the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad in 1899 and launched one of the most ambitious railroad modernization programs in American history, including new standards and systems. His efforts to rebuild the 900-mile system set the standard for U.S. rail construction. Under his leadership, the DL&W installed heavier bridges and track, straightened curves, created Cut-Offs, and built new stations. Truesdale retired in 1925 but remained chairman of the board until 1930. He is featured here (left) in front of the Lackawanna Limited with an unidentified man.
