Desk
1840 - 1860

Slant top desk with 8 open pigeon-holes on top, stained dark walnut.

This small desk stood in the Lincoln Home for many years.  Mr. Lincoln may have had it in his bedroom for the times he met with clients there when Mrs. Lincoln was entertaining downstairs.  He probably wrote some of his political speeches at it as well.   Eventually it broke and Mrs. Lincoln threw it out. However, Mr. Lincoln rescued it and gave it to a neighbor. Lincoln told the neighbor if he could repair the desk, the neighbor could keep it.
