Talus House is located in Frijoles Canyon, near the Bandelier Visitor Center. Ancestral Pueblo people carved many small cave rooms into the soft tuff rock of the cliffs. They then built masonry homes in front of the cave rooms. These homes crumbled long ago, but the one captured in this pastel was reconstructed. The structures can be seen along the Main Loop Trail through the canyon.

As part of the Works Progress Administration Program (WPA), Naumer painted scenes in Bandelier National Monument and nearby pueblos.
