Tonto, also known as Dondo, was about 20 years when this portait was drawn. His Spanish name was given to him by J.L. Hubbell. He also posed for the painting, “Navajo Poker Game”[see HUTR 5277] where he wore a red shirt, red bandana, and is holding cards.
