Alexander Robinson to John Ridgely

After his father Charles Carnan Ridgely manumitted most of the slaves working at Hampton at the time of his death in 1829. John Ridgely needed to purchase the laborers for work on the estate. This receipt is one of several in the Hampton archives recording these transactions. Ridgely paid the impressive sum of $800.00 for Alexander Robinson’s slave Philip.
