Queen Elizabeth II
This pair of porcelain birds is among a number of state gifts arrayed throughout the Eisenhowers living room. These were presented to the President and First lady by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the White House on October 17, 1957. On the piano in the same room is a photograph of Queen Elizabeth and her family autographed by the Queen and her husband, Prince Philip. The Queen and the President liked to exchange recipes through the mail. A letter including her scone recipe is on file at the Presidential Museum in Abilene. The Queen’s father, King George, met with Eisenhower several times during the war and was fond of him.
