1942-1945
On November 8, 1942, Eisenhower commanded Operation Torch, the Allied landings in North Africa. Since the American military operations were taking place in a region with strong Islamic culture, the U.S. Army’s North African Theater of Operations shoulder patch featured a Moorish arch design.
