Counters and furniture in this first-floor apartment that opened onto the courtyard were sized for Bessie Johnson's barely 5-foot-tall frame. The apartment was used for a variety of purposes. Both Albert and Bessie Johnson stayed there during periods of remodeling the main house.

Scotty lived there at the end of his life when he could no longer safely care for himself alone at the Lower Vine Ranch.
