Stock Saddle
Made by Visalia Stock Saddle Company, San Francisco, CA
c 1927

This custom made saddle has a wealth of tooled acorns, pine cones, water lilies, roses and orchids over most of the leather surfaces. The seat is black patent leather with a stitched foliage design. On the back of the cantle is an eagle. With a saddle tree at 17 inches long, the saddle was made for a big man, like Albert Johnson. Although there are pictures taken in Death Valley of Albert Johnson on horseback using a saddle very much like this one , this type of saddle does not seem to belong on a working ranch.
