The Sandburgs' grandson, John Carl, full of adventure and daring, loved to tromp through the woods, streams and rocky slopes looking for lizards and snakes. He had a keen ability for science, beginning in the kitchen making jams then tackling the innards of electronic devices and machines. (My Connemara, p 77-81)
