Sandburg mentored famed author of navy novels,kW Kenneth Dodson. As a gift to Sandburg, Dodson sent thi jar of sand from the shores of Kwajelein. Kwajelein, in the Marshall Island chain was a battleground during World War II and was part of the U.S. Navy's island hopping strategy en route to Japan.
