| Mess Kit c 1860 Robert E. Lee carried this mess kit during the Civil War. The folding brown leather case includes a knife, fork and spoon. A soldier’s mess kit was perhaps the most important item he carried next to his weapon; an army travels on its stomach and the only way it can move and be effective is to be well fed and healthy.
