American Visionaries

Visionary: (n) one who has extraordinary foresight and imaginative insight; a seer

American Visionaries is a series featuring American men and women celebrated in the National Park System. By their views of what America might become, they helped shape the life, culture, and history of the United States. Exhibits showcase NPS museum collections created or used by these extraordinary individuals whose homes and places of work can be seen at NPS sites throughout the USA.

The series will begin featuring the exceptional works of Thomas Moran who captured the majesty of Yellowstone, and Frederick Douglass who contributed to the civil rights of African Americans, women and this nation. The series will also highlight the lives and work of Thomas Edison, Carl Sandburg, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Frederick Law Olmsted and many others.

American Visionaries will present an intimate look at the homes, belongings, and the works of art, diaries and letters created by presidents, pioneers, immigrants, artists and authors.
