Beginning Saturday, June 8, Monocacy National Battlefield will provide a new opportunity for kids and their families to visit the park and explore nature. The park, in partnership with the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, has established a new TRACK TRAIL at Worthington Farm. The family friendly trail, one of many the Foundation has supported through its Kids in Parks program, is intended “to get kids ‘unplugged,’ outdoors, and reconnected with nature for their health and the health of our parks.” The park has designated the Worthington Ford Loop trail as its TRACK TRAIL, which features a new wayside sign and map, as well as four brochures for kids to learn more about different aspects of nature during their hike. The Worthington Ford Loop is 1.5-miles in length and features a mostly flat hike that takes visitors down to and along the Monocacy River. Hikers can learn about the significant history of the area as well as the abundant wildlife and nature. For more information on the new TRACK TRAIL, see www.kidsinparks.com/trails/md/monocacy-national-battlefield. The park and trails are free to the public. Park maps and brochures are available at the visitor center located at 5201 Urbana Pike, Frederick, MD 21704. The visitor center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. |
