Contact: Tracy Evans, 301-662-3515 Frederick, MD - Walk in the footsteps of Civil War soldiers who fought at the Battle of Monocacy. On May 14, rangers will conduct a series of free hikes throughout the battlefield highlighting the tactics and troop movements of the "Battle that Saved Washington," which occurred on July 9, 1864. Each hike covers a distance of less than two miles. Allow approximately two hours for each hike. Please meet at the Visitor Center prior to driving to the following locations for the hike:
