Starting June 1, Monocacy National Battlefield will host a regular schedule of free summer ranger programs. On weekdays at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, National Park Service rangers will present “Race to Washington,” an orientation to the Battle of Monocacy. On Saturday and Sunday, the battlefield orientation will be presented at 3:00 p.m., with additional programs covering a variety of subjects offered at 11:00 am and 1:00 p.m.

The 11 a.m. programs will focus on the history of the B&O Railroad Junction through stories about the Civil War, civilian life at that time, and the experiences of free and enslaved African Americans. The 1 p.m. programs will provide opportunities for audience interaction, including mock drills demonstrating what soldiers endured during the Civil War and the Antique Cart Show, a display of artifacts related to the Civil War and the region’s history. Each program will vary, so come to more than one!

All programs are free to the public and begin at the park’s visitor center located at 5201 Urbana Pike, Frederick, MD 21704.
