Monocacy National Battlefield Commemorates 147th Anniversary

The 147th anniversary of the “Battle That Saved Washington” will be commemorated on July 9-10. A living history encampment at the historic Gambrill Farm will feature artillery demonstrations as well as commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with programs depicting soldiers in a new unit, a debate on the question of Maryland succession, open archeological site, and book signings.

*Visit the Best Farm Slave Village archeological site 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. each day. Learn about the exciting discoveries from last year and see what is being uncovering now.

*Artillery Demonstrations:
Saturday – 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
Sunday – 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.


*Author signings at the visitor center on Saturday include:
Ranger Brett Spaulding - Last Chance For Victory, Jubal Early’s 1864 Maryland Invasion.

Gail Stephens – Shadow of Shiloh – Major General Lew Wallace in the Civil War.


*Debate: Union or Disunion – Saturday 1:30 p.m. on steps of the Gambrill House.
